﻿Mateusz Szewczyk is a double bassist and electric bassist working at the intersection of jazz and contemporary music. He graduated with honors from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (2020), where he studied under Adam Kowalewski, and further developed his skills through international programs including the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy.
He is a prizewinner of major jazz competitions in Poland and abroad, including Grand Prix awards at Jazz nad Odrą and Jazz Juniors, as well as First Prize at the Sibiu Jazz Festival. He has also received multiple individual awards.
For years, he has been a member of the Marcin Pater Trio, performing internationally and recording albums with the group. He has collaborated with leading Polish artists such as Leszek Możdżer, Dorota Miśkiewicz, and Wojciech Myrczek. His work spans jazz, improvised music, and contemporary songwriting projects.
He has performed and led workshops across Europe and Asia, including within the international Voicingers program. He has also been active as an educator, teaching at the Academy of Music in Katowice and the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in India.
As a musician fluent in both double bass and electric bass, he moves seamlessly between musical contexts, developing a distinctive and versatile artistic voice.
